Internal Medicine specialist goes by several names like: “Doctor of Internal Medicine”, “Internist” and “General internist”. We are different from other doctors because we specialize in adult care. We are not “Family Physicians” or “GPs” as they don’t focus on adults and they deliver babies and treat children.

We take care of all adult sickness no matter how common or strange it is and how easy or hard it is. We take care of people from adolescence and up through old age. We take pride in taking care of our patients for life. We see them in the office and if the patient needs to be admitted to the hospital we follow them there too. We also follow our patients in the intensive care unit too.

Often other doctors ask for our help with their own patients to help solve puzzling diagnostic problems (as consult) which give us the nickname, “The Doctor’s doctor.” We see patients in nursing homes too. When other medical specialists, such as surgeons or obstetricians are involved, we coordinate our patient's care and manage difficult medical problems associated with that care.

We are not only specially trained to diagnose and treat minor to severe acute and chronic illnesses but we also bring to patients an understanding of disease prevention and the promotion of health, women's health, substance abuse, mental health.
